Laurie Bagley, CFA | Principal


Before founding Strategic Wealth Advisors in December 1998, Laurie served as a Vice President and Senior Portfolio Manager at JPMorgan, specializing in investing for high net worth individuals, trusts and foundations.

Prior to banking, Laurie was a Senior Consultant in public accounting where she provided tax, estate, and financial planning to high net worth individuals, corporate executives and wealthy families. Laurie graduated from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Finance. She earned the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and has completed various NASD licenses.

Laurie is a member of the Phoenix CFA Society, the CFA Institute, the National Association of Professional Women and the Current Tax Discussion Group. An expert in her field, she is often quoted in local and national publications including the Arizona Republic and Worth magazine. She was a regular columnist with the CITY Sun Times and has served as a featured panelist at local conferences, including the Arizona Republic’s Investment Strategies Forum.

Locally, Laurie was selected as one of the "Forty Under Forty", an award given to up and coming professionals by the Phoenix Business Journal in conjunction with the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, she was selected by BizAZ as one of the Top Young Entrepreneurs in Phoenix.

Nationally, she was selected six times as one of "The Nation’s Top Wealth Advisors" by Worth Magazine and twice as one of the "50 Distinguished Women in Wealth Management" by Wealth Manager Magazine and to the 2016 Women in Wealth Awards from Wealth & Finance Magazine.

Laurie is currently spearheading the firm’s financial literacy initiatives and started Family Finance Educators, a company dedicated to providing financial education to youth and young adults through a proprietary program called “Bringing Finance Home”™.

When not busy with SWA and her three young children, Laurie dedicates time to various community organizations including Mountain View Presbyterian Church, Valley Youth Theatre and The University of Arizona Eller Associates. Laurie is also currently serving as a Girl Scout Troop Leader. She has previously donated time to Girls Scouts’ Camp CEO, Boys & Girls Club of the East Valley Endowment Fund and served as the Vice Chairman for the United Way Campaign for JPMorgan.

John A. Bagley, CPA, CFP®, MBA | Principal


John`s career began in public accounting where he provided tax planning services to high net worth individuals, closely held businesses and wealthy families.

After public accounting, John moved into real estate development where he served as Treasurer and subsequently as Vice President of Acquisitions and Development at Communities Southwest. As Treasurer, John was responsible for cash flow planning and performance reporting on over $100 million of investor capital. He developed a treasury management system, investing cash balances in excess of $20 million. Additionally, he implemented and monitored the Company`s 401(k) retirement plan. As Vice President of Acquisitions and Development, he negotiated purchase and sale agreements, developed economic feasibility analyses and performed due diligence on prospective acquisition candidates.

John graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Accounting and completed his Masters in Business Administration in Finance at Arizona State University. He has earned both the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designations. John served as a regular columnist for the CITY Sun Times in Scottsdale, Arizona and has been quoted in BusinessWeek Magazine. For the last seven listings, Medical Economics has selected him as one of the "Top 150 Best Financial Advisors for Doctors" and Reuters recently named him to their "Top Advisors" list.

John is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA) and the Eller College Associates at the University of Arizona. He previously served on the Board of Directors for the University of Arizona Phoenix Alumni and as the Treasurer of Mountain View Presbyterian Church for 14 years. John enjoys participating in various community service activities throughout the year and coaching his daughters' soccer teams.

James D. Schwartz, CFP®, CDFA™, RICP® | Senior Advisor


With over 18 years in the financial services industry, Jim joined Strategic Wealth Advisors, LLC after running an independent financial planning firm. He also taught community college courses on various financial planning topics. Prior to his financial career, Jim served in the US Air Force for twelve years as an A-10 and F-16 fighter pilot flying more than forty combat missions over Iraq and Bosnia as well as instructing student pilots at the former Williams Air Force Base in Mesa, Arizona

Jim earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University. While taking graduate coursework he was sponsored by the Small Business Administration and the University of West Florida to provide financial consulting to small local businesses.

He also earned his Certified Financial Planner (CFP®), Certified Divorce Financial Analyst (CDFA™), and Retirement Income Certified Professional (RICP®) designations and is a member of the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA) and the Financial Planning Association (FPA).

He has been quoted in Money Magazine and the The Arizona Republic and has been featured on ABC 15 News. Jim regularly speaks around the Valley on the topics of maximizing Social Security retirement and survivor benefits and the financial issues facing bereaved spouses.

Spearheading our Widowed Community Services, Jim specializes in working with individuals during and subsequent to a transition period such as divorce or the loss of a spouse. He is particularly skilled in his ability to guide his clients through difficult decisions while ensuring the stability of their finances.

Jim is the founder of Widowed Community Education and Support Services Inc. (WCESS), a non-profit dedicated to helping individuals who have lost a spouse or partner. One of his initiatives for the widowed community is the establishment of four widowed-to-widowed grief support groups in the Phoenix area. Jim has also organized several weekend conferences for the widowed community.

Jim enjoys spending time with his family, hiking, reading, photography and taking road trips.
